On April 21 2017, we reserved the master bedroom of Alex's appartment in Hollywood.The listing claimed the following :

All amenities included.

APARTMENT FEATURES:

- you get your own master bedroom with a private bathroom, closet, balcony

- Sleeps 3 (third person can choose to sleep on living room couch or airmatress)

- FREE WiFi - Central Air Conditioning and Heating - Hardwood Floors (carpeted bedroom/walk in closet) - All brand new furniture and apartment - Dishwasher, Microwave, Full Size Stove - Laundry Facilities inside the unit (modern washer and dryer) - Cleaned by professional maids - Full Kitchen - Extra Comfortable Mattresses, 600 thread count sheets, High Quality Comforter Sets - Chic and modern design - Stainless Steel appliances We demand a refund for the following reasons.

Before reserving, we asked for more pictures, because only one was provided in the listing. A woman claiming to be Alex said that she did not have any at the moment. When we saw the apartment, we understood why she would not provide pictures. We did have our own room with a private bathroom.

However: • It was very sparsely furnished -- just a bed and a TV. No bedside table or lamp, no dresser, no chairs, and no sofa, contrary to what was shown in the picture. • We had to ask for the air mattress, which was stored in a pile in the dirty living room. • It smelled like cheap perfume in the room, as if someone wanted to hide a bad smell.

• The bath, sink, and mirror were dirty. • The only linens that were provided were 5 face cloths and a hand towel. • The blinds did not work properly, missing many slats • The balcony was cluttered with stuff belonging to other people (and Alex responded that he wasn't responsible for the comings and goings of the people in the apartment!) • The room could only be locked from the inside, so we could not lock it when we wanted to leave. Furthermore, the front door was always unlocked.

Alex only gave us the key to the building, not to the apartment, claiming that there was always someone there. Therefore, both the front door and the door to our room were always unlocked, so we could easily have been robbed. When we confronted Alex about these problems, he made up excuses and said he would get the air mattress (which he did) and extra linens (which he didn't). When we explained our problems with the state of the apartment, he replied that we had only rented a room, disregarding the fact that we were supposed to have access to the kitchen, which was in a horrible state.

Now for the rest of the appartment: • There were 4 or 5 occupants in the living room and kitchen when we arrived (alone, because Alex did not accompany us). These were all temporary lodgers or couch surfers, judging by all the couches and air mattresses. • The kitchen and fridge were dirty and smelled bad, just like the rest of the apartment. • No coffee maker, no glasses.

We only managed to find 2 cups. • When we woke up, six people were sleeping in that mess of a living room. We have traveled a lot (often using AirBnB), enough to know what to expect from a room costing 123 $ CAD (plus fees) in Hollywood. We did not expect the Ritz, but we will not accept paying that for a room in a dirty apartment that felt like a bad youth hostel.

We also had the following problems communicating with Alex: • Alex made me repeat a lot of information before we arrived, while I was in Venice. All that information was already in our AirBnB messages. • I had to insist that he take our luggage on the morning of our arrival, as agreed, because he thought he might no longer be available! • So Alex arranged a meeting to pick up our luggage, not in front of the apartment, but across the street, and it wasn't Alex who met us, but a lodger who had been woken up at the last minute, and was late.

• When we came back that night, we again had to meet across the street. He then gave us confusing information, and asked us to claim that we are family if anybody asked. Alex did try to be courteous, and said he did not want us to be dissatisfied. He even made a brief attempt at tidying up the kitchen.

But that did not fix anything. We had to sleep there the first night, because we arrived at 7:45 PM (as Alex requested), which was too late to find any other accommodations at a reasonable price, though I searched for 3 hours. I did find something for the next 2 nights, but it cost more than my AirBnB booking. At such short notice, barely anything was available in Hollywood.

For all these reasons, and generally for false advertising, we demand a complete refund. Attached you will find a few pictures. My travelling partner can corroborate my statement if necessary. On a final note, I don't think Alex even has the right to rent out his apartment, because he always refused to meet us in front of the building, never came in with us, and asked us to claim that we were family if asked.

I have contacted his co-op board to find out.

Nous demandons un remboursement complet pour les raisons suivantes. Avant de rserver, nous avons demand des photos supplmentaires car il ny en a quune sur lannonce dAlex. Mais le faux Alex (ce nest pas une femme mais bien un homme) a prtendu ne pas en avoir pour linstant Ce nest quaprs tre entres dans lappartement que nous avons compris pourquoi.

Nous avons bel et bien eu une chambre prive avec salle de bain prive mais : Ctait spartiate : un lit et une tlvision. Pas de table ni de lampe dappoint, pas de commode, pas de chaise, pas de sofa comme sur la photo. On a d demander le lit gonflable, un lit gonflable qui sortait dune pile dans le salon o la propret tait vraiment douteuse. a sentait le parfum dambiance de mauvaise qualit, dans la chambre, comme si on voulait camoufler des odeurs.

Le bain et lvier ntaient pas propres, le miroir non plus. On a reu pour toutes serviettes 5 dbarbouillettes et une serviette mains. Les stores occultants taient dfectueux. Le balcon tait encombr des effets personnels appartenant dautres locataires (Alex a rpondu quil ntait pas responsable des alles et venues des personnes dans lappartement!).

La porte de la chambre ne se barrait que de lintrieur. Donc on ne pouvait barrer notre chambre lorsque nous aurions voulu quitt. Qui plus est, la porte de lappartement tait toujours dbarre. Alex ne nous a fourni quune cl de limmeuble, pas celle de lappartement, sous prtexte quil y a avait toujours du monde dans lappartement, quil nous a dit!

On na qu faire un et un font deux : porte dappartement et porte de chambre dbarres, on peut se faire voler. Quand nous avons confront Alex avec notre insatisfaction, il sest confondu en excuses simules et il a dit quil nous fournirait le matelas et dautres serviettes. Le matelas, OK, les serviettes, on oublie a, on ne les a jamais reues. Pour ce qui est de nos remarques sur ltat de lappartement, il a rpondu que nous avions lou une chambre faisant fi du fait que nous avions accs la cuisine dans un environnement repoussant!

Lappartement en question. Il y avait 4 ou 5 locataires dans le salon et la cuisine quand nous sommes arrives, seules, puisquAlex ne nous a pas accompagnes. Tous des locataires de passage qui, semble-t-il, faisaient du couch surfing (canaps et moult lits gonflables). Les lieux taient sales et nausabonds.

La cuisine et le frigo aussi. Pas de cafetire. Pas de verres. Nous navons pu profiter que de deux tasses.

Au rveil, six personnes dans la noirceur du salon, toutes dormant dans un vrai fouillis. Nous avons assez voyag de par le monde (avec Airbnb souvent) pour savoir ce quoi sattendre en louant une chambre 123$CAD (+ frais) Hollywood. Nous ne nous attendions pas au Ritz Carleton. Mais nous nacceptons pas le fait davoir t hberges dans un appartement aux allures dauberge de jeunesse dune malpropret certaine.

Au chapitre des communications : Alex ma fait rpter plein de trucs avant la prise de possession, pendant que jtais Venice. Il avait pourtant toutes les infos dans nos changes Airbnb. Jai d insister pour quil prenne les bagages, le matin de la location et tel quentendu, car il ne croyait plus tre disponible! Alex ma donc donn rendez-vous pour prendre nos bagages.

Pas devant lappartement, lautre ct de la rue. Pas lui, un locataire rveill la dernire minute. En retard. Le soir de la location, toujours de lautre ct de la rue.

travers ses infos confuses, il nous demande de rpondre que nous sommes des tantes de la famille si on nous questionne dans ou en dehors de lappartement. Alex a bien essay dtre courtois en prtextant quil ne nous voulait pas insatisfaites. Il a mme ramass succinctement la cuisine et pass laspirateur sur le plancher sale de la cuisine. Mais a na rien arrang.

Nous avons d dormir l, la premire nuit, car nous sommes arrives 19h45 (comme Alex lavait demand), trop tard pour trouver quelque chose un prix raisonnable. Jai pourtant cherch pendant 3 heures. Jai tout de mme trouv pour le lendemain et pour 2 nuits, un prix suprieur que celui que javais pay via Airbnb. Il ne restait presque rien Hollywood, la dernire minute comme a.

Pour toutes ces raisons et pour le fait doffrir une location sous de fausses reprsentations, nous demandons un remboursement complet. Je joins ici quelques photos. Si vous avez besoin du tmoignage de lamie qui maccompagnait ou si vous avez des questions, nhsitez pas. Enfin, je crois quAlex na pas droit de louer lappartement car jamais, il ne nous a rencontres au pied de limmeuble; qui plus est, il ny est pas rentr en mme temps que nous et nous a rpt de nous identifier comme tantes de la famille .

Dailleurs, jai crit au syndic de coproprits pour savoir ce quil en tait. Merci de votre attention et de votre collaboration.
